personally, having suffered from depression for over 10 years, my advice would have to be to take the pills.
Not taking them, and therefore not sleeping properly, will only make your depressions worse, and I doubt very much if it will have any positive impact at all.
I don't really know much about the hair loss side of things, other than what I've read online, but most sources seem convinced that stress actually makes it worse, no matter the original cause trigger
Staying off your pills is surely stressing you out,since it's affecting your mood in general, so it's possible it will actually make that worse too.
Take the pills, and get the sleep you need. If nothing else it will help you to feel more positive if you feel better in general, and that can only be a good thing *hugs*
