Scotland has ruined me.

Two years ago, in celebration of turning the big 5-0, seven of my close relatives and I took a ten-day, dream trip to Scotland. I say it was a dream trip because it was my long-time dream to go to Scotland. I’m not entirely sure why. I don’t think there’s an overabundance of Scottish heritage in my DNA. It more likely stems ( Read more... )

What a wonderful wonderful holiday!!! I'm very envious and I think you absolutely SHOULD investigate every avenue for permanent relocation if its calling so loudly and endearingly to your heart.

Permanent relocation would rule out life with my husband, so unless something tragic happens it's quite a long shot. :) Although....he is 10 years older than I am...

I have never been to Scotland, but absolutely get how a place can "ruin" you (the Tower of London among many many others).

I felt like was there with you in your story, very nicely done :)

London is on my list for someday as well. I would tell everyone to go to Scotland if I could. It was fantastic!

What a great holiday! My father's father was from Scotland, and I have the ancestral sword. I would love to see it.

It was beautiful. There's so much to see and do also. You should go. If I had a family connection, I would have researched where they came from and made sure I visited there. One of my cousins has ancestry tied to William Wallace (on her other side, not mine) so going to the Wallace Monument was epic for her.

It's a beautiful country, and sizeable too. I'd love to see more of it.

And I think you should totally visit Italy. It's gorgeous!

Have you been? I just loved it so much. I was worried that it wouldn't live up to my expectations, but it totally did and more.

We've semi-planned a trip through northern Italy, just need to find the funds and time to go. :)

I went decades ago with my parents, and it was only for about 3 days around Edinburgh. We spent more time in Wales, which is where my ancestors are from.

The part of Scotland I saw was beautiful, and of course the other parts seen through TV shows like Hamish Macbeth and Shetland and Monarch of the Glen. 10 days seems like a luxury, and as you say, it still wasn't enough!

We loved Italy. I've been to Rome and Florence twice, and Venice once, and I recommend all of them. Don't miss Venice-- it's a one-of-a-kind city!
