Great take on what might have been. The idea that they found their way to hunting anyway, that Sam's questions made John think (very nice touch there) and Dean's outcome... I'm very much enjoying!

I really debated whether to have John and Dean become hunters anyway. But in the end, something supernatural still took John's son, and eventually his wife, from him. So I figured the motivation would still be there. Thanks so much for the feedback.

I love the image of Dean with his extra-hard outer layer just cracking slightly when John leaves. I don't know, it's like there is still a Dean in there, he's just toughened up so much he's pretty unrecognisable. John, too seems to have lost some of his usual reflection on what he's done and it's all because of Sammy.

Silly Sam, of course you being there made a huge difference.

Poor Sammy just needs a reminder of his worth. :) I'm glad you liked that image of Dean. I could clearly see him putting on a tough front, then cracking when John was gone. Thanks so much for the feedback.
