lol. the "coins are not real money"... yes. been there. In my year in the UK, I found that I spent the one pound coins like quarters, even though the exchange rate was about 2 dollars to the pound back then. I was so glad I was in Scotland because they print 1 pound notes instead of only the coins. So crazy American chica I am I would actually ASK to have paper money, since it felt like REAL MONEY, y'know.

I would love paper 1 euros but they totally don't do that here. DON'T THEY UNDERSTAND THAT COINS ARE NOT LEGIT?!

Viel Spass bei Deutschland. Strasbourg is really pretty too.

I will try! Our hostel is in Germany, so I don't know exactly how much time we'll spend there (since Strasbourg is like, ten minutes away) but I'm excited just at the idea of seeing another country. I've heard such lovely things about Strasbourg so I'm super excited!

Strasbourg is practically Germany anyway. :) I think the biggest difference is the food is more French. If I remember correctly, there are some pretty good chocolate shops in Strasbourg.

Google tells me they have a Christkindelmarkt in Strasbourg. Those are SO MUCH FUN, you need to go! Drink some Glühwein for me.

That is precisely why we're going! That and it sounded fun. I plan on drinking the vin chaud! :)

I remember that about the ATMs! I used to have to space my rent withdrawal out over several days and it always made me nervous having that much cash in my room. PITA. To be fair, American ATMs also have cash limits but you can work around them more easily.

Please have some flan at a delicious bakery for me. It is the one thing I can't seem to find anywhere over here.

Totally a pain! I'm still kind of freaked out that there's something TERRIBLY WRONG and somehow all my money is gone even though I know that's not the case. /spazz

You know, I've had flan here and it's totally not the same as flan at home! Creme caramel is flan to me- the flan they say is flan is something else entirely but I can't figure out *what.*

I have never been able to find French flan over here. The closest we have is a sort of custard pie but it's not at all the same thing. I wish I'd eaten more of it over there, though considering I had it every few days that's not a good wish.

Ha, that's how I feel about all the baked goods I consume here. EAT IT WHILE YOU CAAAAAN and I'm eating like, my third baguette of the week and I am like, whoa, simmer down.

I also still am in the mindset that 'coins aren't real money' which is a problem when one and two euro coins very much are real money.

Lols - I can see this turning into a problem.

Ugh, it's totally a problem. Usually I'm lucky and it's the reverse, though- I'm like nooo I don't have any more bills and then I check my change compartment and it's got some 1 or 2 euro pieces and I'm like oh whew!
