Jensen
It was pretty quiet in ER and after he had finished his shift, he decided to go and visit the dude he had picked up off the road earlier that evening.”

Jensen had suspected drunk driving at first, particularly with the puking, but on approaching the guy, he hadn’t smelt any alcohol and there didn’t seem to be any drugs involved. He had taken one look at the guy’s white face and trembling limbs and decided that taking him in would be a good idea.

They had admitted him; got him started on glucose and an IV to get some fluids back into him. Jensen wondered what had happened to put the guy into such a state and, because he was an awesome paramedic (nothing to do with the guy being hot), Jensen stopped by to visit, to make sure that the guy was ok.

He still look pale, face white against the hospital sheets, long fingers plucking at the loose cotton, eyes distant and red-rimmed. Jensen stood in the doorway for a long time, hesitating. Really, it was none of his business; his momma was always saying he was too caring for his own good.

“Hey,” he finally made his move, strolling into the guy’s room, smile on his face, friendly and open, and “you feeling any better?”

“Not so sick,” the guy smiled back, eyes bright with, what looked like, unshed tears, “thanks.”

“Just doing my job. They tell me you were badly dehydrated but the drip should help.”

“Jared,” the guy put out a huge hand and Jensen took it, wondering at the size of it, the length of the fingers, the tight, firm grip, “Jared Padalecki.”

“Jensen, Jensen Ackles,” Jensen accepted the handshake and sat on the edge of Jared’s bed, relaxing a little, “nice to meet you.”

“You been a paramedic long?” Jared’s voice was hoarse, tired and Jensen could see the dark shadows under his eyes.

“Ten years - always wanted to do this - it is a great job - hours suck but hey, you can’t have everything.”

Jared nodded, yawning suddenly and Jensen shook his head.

“Hey, look, seems like you need your sleep - relax now dude and when they bring you your breakfast tomorrow - try and eat it ok? The eggs here are fantastic.”

Jared smiled again, shaky but warm and he nodded.

“Thanks again Jensen,” he said, softly, “hey - maybe when I’m out of here I could - maybe - buy you a beer - you know - to say thanks.”

Jensen paused for a moment, wondering, then he grinned back, deciding not to let such a golden opportunity go by.

“Yeah - yeah I’d like that,” he took out a pad and scribbled down his cell number. He wasn’t hopeful, even as he ripped it out and handed it to Jared, but a man can live in hope.

Jensen had no problems with his sexuality. He had a supportive family, a great job, fantastic work mates and a life he wouldn’t swap for anything. The only thing missing was a life partner and he realised, as he turned thirty, that was the one thing he really wanted.

Meeting people was never a problem, but one night stands were something he really didn’t want and he wished that he could meet that ‘special someone’, however lame that sounded.

Two weeks down the line, he had almost given up on Jared, when his phone rang in the middle of the supermarket and he pressed it to his ear, heart leaping when he heard that deep, Texan twang.

“Uh - hi - it’s me - um - Jared - the guy you helped. I’m feeling a little better and was wondering if - well - you wanted to go for that beer now?”

Jensen found himself smiling widely, regardless of the strange looks he was getting from his fellow customers,

“Yeah,” he said, hoping he wasn’t coming across as too eager, “yeah - that would be great.”

He took down the address of the bar that Jared suggested and then pushed the paper in his pocket, beaming happily.

He couldn’t wait for tonight.

Beer with Jared was fun.

The younger man was shy but chatty enough when you got some liquid into him. He appeared to be intelligent, have a good sense of humour and, it had to be said, was the hottest thing Jensen had ever seen.

Jared was recovering from a huge break-up and that went a long way to explaining why the younger man had been so out of it when they had last met. The guy who had left Jared was obviously the love of his life, and Jared found it hard to even mention his name, let alone talk about him.

Secretly, Jensen thought the guy was an ass. A stupid, blind ass in fact.

How could he have left someone so sweet and as nice as Jared? How could he have turned his back on something so good? Jensen didn’t know and Jared wasn’t telling.

All Jensen could hope is that Jared would heal and when he did, Jensen would still be around to help him with that process.

They began to see each other regularly.

They weren’t dating as such, just two guys hanging out together, doing ‘guy’ things and having a good time.

They went to basketball games together, spent days out at football matches and just walking, in the park or to the mall. At nights, they might go to the cinema or for a meal. Jared’s appetite was returning and the guy ate like a horse, pizza, fries, Mexican or Thai, Jared could, and frequently, would, eat them all.

Jared still never mentioned his lost love, but he was getting better and Jensen could see it. He put on weight, his skin turning golden through long days out in the sun. He was as gorgeous as ever and Jensen was finding it harder and harder to keep his hands off him.

They were watching ‘Die Hard’ at Jared’s place, beer cans scattered across the floor, both of them pleasantly buzzed, thighs touching, shoulders hot against each other.

Jensen let his arm fall, lightly, across Jared’s shoulder and stroked down his bicep, his heart thumping, his mouth dry and eager.

Finally, Jared turned and Jensen saw something new in his slanting hazel eyes. He saw hope.

Jensen bent forward, swallowing hard and pressing his lips, hopefully, against Jared’s.

Jared groaned and opened his mouth, letting Jensen slide his tongue inside that warm, welcoming heat. His arms came up and wrapped around Jensen’s waist and they both moaned, the kiss deepening, tongues tangling, breathes coming in sharp, short hitches of excitement.

They made out like teenagers until Jensen could hold back no longer. He pushed Jared down onto the couch and spread his legs, pulling down jeans and boxers, so that Jared was half-naked before him.

Jensen licked his lips and wrapped them around Jared’s half-hard cock. It jumped and expanded in his mouth, pulsing wildly. Jensen grinned around it and lifted his eyes to see Jared staring down at him, mouth open, eyes half-lidded, hands coming to frame Jensen’s head.

“I’ve - this has never happened to me before…” Jared ground out, voice breathless and wondering, “Chris always wanted me to - to - oh God - to do him - he never - shit - did this for me.”

Jensen stared up at the beautiful man in front of him and swore, in his heart, that he would take such good care of him. He swore that Jared would never be hurt again, never be used again, he swore that Jared would be happy and that Jared would be his.

He put his hands on Jared’s thighs, stroking his fingers behind Jared’s silky balls, pushing a finger, gently into Jared’s entrance, feeling the younger man buck and hiss in pleasure.

“I’m gonna…” he began and Jensen just smiled and hummed around Jared’s cock, swallowing down the younger man’s orgasm, stroking him through it until Jared pulled his head up and kissed him hard, licking the taste of his own come away from Jensen’s mouth, his hands firm on Jensen’s shoulder.

They lay tangled on the couch, Jared half-asleep against Jensen’s chest, Jensen stroking through soft chestnut hair.

“Jensen?” Jared’s voice was soft, barely there and Jensen stroked harder, tangling strands through his fingers, possessive and warm.

“Yeah baby,” he smiled happy, warm and content.

“I love you,” Jared murmured and Jensen felt his heart leap, unable to believe his good fortune.

“I love you too baby and I’m never going to let you go.” Jensen tightened his grasp, ready to protect Jared from the world.

No one would ever hurt Jared again.
