That article actually makes it sound like an issue. It's not really. People have adapted very quickly and I've not heard anyone bitching about it. It's more a marketing ploy to lure customers into the different clothes shops.

A marketing ploy?? Man, that gets my back up!! Like I said, a big fat fine that wipes out profits is fitting in this instance. Damn stores have no ethics at all.

It's just something the clothing stores have picked up on. They've always handed out free 'thicker' bags to their customers, so now Mr. Price says they're going to continue doing that...Edgars has followed because they're probably think it's going to cost them customers (stupid thinking anyway)...they should be fined, the law was introduced to cut down on pollution by reducing the number of bags in circulation.

Anyway, as I said, it's more of an issue with the shops than the people. Life just goes on and we have more pressing issues to worry about than where we get our bags.

Yeah, the whole point of this legislation is to reduce the plastic that is spoiling SA, not to see who can use it as a marketing ploy. Seriousely, there are times when I think capitalism should be reeled in a bit.

I'll send you a bag from Germany if you like? Canvas ones like we use. It's not like they're spun from gold weave or anything but at least they are hard wearing and they last.

Sure. Just mail me your address and I'll send you one or two. My wife can buy some at the store when she goes next week.
