Hoffmaster is a really nice park, at least it was the last time I was there, but thats been several years. I would definitely go back there.

i know you're looking for lake michigan, but i just remember a state park that we used to camp at when i was little off of lake huron...

it's the PH Hoeft State Park in Rogers City, and its cool, from what i can remember, so maybe if you had the chance to do that you might be interested...

Thanks! I have a family cabin about 30 minutes from Rogers City. I'll have to take that into consideration.

I've never been to the manitou islands, but my dad has. I'll ask him and get back to you.

Also never been to those particular parks, but have been to some good ones; not necessarily along lake Michigan, however. Lemme know if you want some other ideas.

Yeah I've decided I'm going to take a day trip to the south island (sadly I don't have time for anything else).

I LOVE the picture rocks. My Aunt and Uncle got married on a boat cruise along the pictured rocks and I had to giggle to myself b/c most passengers were watching the scenery ... not the wedding ceremony.

I really need to get up to the UP more often. Gosh.

If I were to go to ONE place in the UP this summer, what would you recommend?

the Holland State park is in my home town, and I've camped there. It's nice, and there is stuff to do, but it depends on what type of camping you want to do. At holland state there are other campers around you, and it's not really woodsy. I wouldn't call it real camping, but I've had fun every time.

Thanks for the advice.. and I'm sorry but I don't know who you are (??). I won't be driving as far south as Holland sadly, but I've heard it's a great area. Gosh, I just love that whole coastline!

Oh neato! My apologies, I didn't realize you were on LJ. Now that you say it, I recognize your photo, silly me.

Welcome welcome!
