So as soon as you get pregnant, all of these web sites and magazines target you because you are now their prime advertising demo - a mom. You get solicited for parenting magazines and web sites with coupons for formula and baby food and such other things. None of these things are designed to actually make life easier for you. What is truly horrifying is how they will continue to track you and your baby. My oldest just turned 30, has been in the Army and not living with me since 2003, and I moved 5 years ago --- I still get mail addressed to the name we used when he was a baby (Jim, but he's gone by James since he was 7).

It was easier to ignore all the marketing with the later kids, since I knew what to expect.

Thats OK, Lindsay - your job is to comment on these things we all know about but with the intimacy of direct exerience, which is what makes it mre interested & insightful. Keep it up, we love you for your brrraaaiiiinnnssss.:)

Amen sister. I'm tired of the brain washing I've been bombarded with. Somehow I'm a failure because I put on weight during the 2 years after son was born.

Yeah, I can't read any of those women's mags or parenting mags because I always buy that stuff hook line and sinker. Even though I know they are manipulating me, I fall for it and feel worse about myself, so I just totally stay away. The parenting mags are just as bad as the women's mags, they just target different guilt areas. The best source of info/advice on all things post pregnancy and beyond I've found is other moms.
