I need to write more. This becomes abundantly clear when I attempt to write an entry and I can't muster the motivation because I realize I have too much ground to cover. OK, the media you're using is very good, so it's definately the burn speed. Burning at max speed is not recommended as you'll more than likely get errors while and/or after burning. Some people burn at half of what the advertised burn speed is, but personally, I burn all my backups at 4x.
