Ueda was looking at his watch for the third time in the last 10 minutes. The meeting was going overtime and he was itching to get out. He had heard from a family friend about a new restaurant and he wanted to go. He had withheld from eating the snacks provided for Kat-tun and his stomach was protesting.
"Bwaaargh!"
The manager stopped speaking to look at the members.
Koki got up and pointed to his right. "Where did that come from? You? You? You?" Kame, Jin and Taguchi were shaking their heads vigourously in denial.
"Well, it definitely came from that direction. It must have been YOU, UEBO! Can't you control your body parts?
Ueda looked at Koki guiltily. "I'm hungry! I don't care what Junior Kame is going to hold up during which performance. Can we leave, now?"
"You uncaring ONLY CHILD" Koki accused Ueda and sat down. 'Juri was not just some junior. He might be the most talented Tanaka yet!'
The manager quickly wrapped up while avoiding Ueda's pitiful face and excused everyone.
"Hey, guys. I have a restaurant I heard so much about and I'm going today. Who wants to join me?" Ueda asked excitedly.
*silence*
"Hello? New restaurant...dinner...sexy noodles...?" Ueda tried again.
"Sorry,...got plans...AV stars...billiards...you can join us if you like." Koki and Junno were joining their respective gangster friends and their invitation did not tempt Ueda one bit. He turned eagerly to his best bet.
"Sorry, Ueda. Kame is cooking for me and we're leaving soon. Next time, OK?" Jin excused himself and Kame. Ueda was crushed. He thought for sure he could count on Jin and his stomach. But lately his friend has been absent and negligent. He looked at Nakamaru as a last resort.
Nakamaru sighed at his friend's pleading look. He could never deny Ueda. "OK, I'll come. But you have to let me finish my homework during dinner. I don't have a lot of time."
Ueda happily agreed and off they went. If Nakamaru was going to do his homework, that means he gets to eat three-forths of their dinner.
At dinner:
Nakamaru slurped the last of the noodles down and his eyes rolled up in ecstacy. "Umai! This is too good! Why did we not come here before!"
"What happened to doing your homework?" Ueda was mildly disappointed but he was happy to see Nakamaru enjoying himself. 'Jin would have loved it too. Why did he refuse? To eat some pasta Kame was going to make? It's not like they had a date, was it? He could have postponed since he hadn't hung out with Ueda for ages. But NO! He was tagging along behind Kame everywhere now at all hours. Even a walk to the combini couldn't be cancelled if it was with Kame.' Ueda started to fume, blowing his fringe out of his eyes. 'What was That all about?'
"Hey Nakamaru, what's up with Jin these days? He never does anything or goes anywhere with us." He looked at Nakamaru who was leaning back in post-binge satisfaction.
"Yeah, well, each person has their priorities." Nakamaru told him. "I want to do environmental studies and Jin wants to do Kame."
Ueda dropped his jaw.
"However, I'm concerned about the other thing. It's been obvious to me that he is slacking in work. He lets us do most of the pulling and is too relaxed. Didn't you notice? Like Kame said the other day, he's like a confident husband...but overindulged by Kame and by his fans." Nakamaru complained to Ueda.
"I didn't know you felt that way." Ueda was shocked. Normally, Nakamaru never says a negative thing about Jin or anyone else for the matter. His negativity was saved all for himself. And Jin was universally liked by the members.
"I just think he needs a push. He does great work if he's motivated. I just think someone needs to find a way to motivate him."
"Well, Kame is not going to do anything about it, it seems. He's happy to have Jin tagging along as a second Ran-chan. Jin is happy and won't do anything that doesn't have Kame in it. I think Kame is the bad influence." Ueda said jealously.
Nakamaru looked at him thoughtfully.
After silent contemplation, he told Ueda. "Why don't we give Jin a little shock. A way to motivate him. I have an idea."
Ueda smiled his beautiful brilliant princess smile in anticipation. He was an "S" afterall...
On the set of Rescue:
"Thanks a lot, Massu. For this, you can have the rest of the noodles. Eat up! I'll see you later." he laughed at his drooling friend and left. 'So predictable, everytime. Kat-tun will never be second to News.' He needed to know another News member's schedule and whereabouts and he got it in record time from Massu, his friend in News and his co-star. He better hurry if he was going to run into one Yamashita, accidentally of course.
At a nearby studio where Pi was filming his drama:
"Pi! I had no idea you were filming so close to our studio. You must be here all the time, these days. I heard Jin complaining that he never gets to hang out with you."
Pi looked estatic that his best-friend was missing him.
"What am I? His girl-friend? Does he need another one? Kame-chan not working hard enough?" Pi chuckled at his own joke. "I have some time this weekend. I'll call him up."
"Oh, you know, he has plans with Ueda and I to go to the countryside this Sunday. Why don't you join us and surprise him?" Nakamaru asked hoping Pi won't check with Jin first.
"Great idea! Ueda's big house? Give me the directions. I'll meet you there." Pi told him and giggled to himself. 'Surprise, Jin-kun! Pi-chan is coming!'
At the Jimusho:
Getting Jin to agree to the trip was a feat of Gi-normous proportions. Nakamaru, however, knew where the strings were attached to Akanishi Jin.
"Ueda was crying to me 'Even Jin is too busy for me' 'Noone loves me anymore'. Poor boy." Nakamaru looked a little uncomfortable telling this because it had a bit of truth to it. "That's why I'm going to take him out to the countryside..to make him feel better." He tried to make puppy face unsuccessfully.
Jin was not moved even a bit. 'Ueda doesn't cry these days. Besides, you look like an Oji-san with that face.', he thought.
Nakamaru waited.
*Sob...Sob...*
"Jin, you must GO!" Kame cried. "This Sunday I have a radio show I must attend or I'll be there too!"
Kame looked with pleading eyes at the boy sitting next to him. He twirled Jin's pinkie with his own.
"I will GO!"
At Ueda's creepy country house:
On a paper anchored by a boxing glove, was written:
Kat-tun Priorities!
(which takes precedence over even Environmental studies and Kame)
1. Keep in shape: never know when Johnny-san will decide to make Kat-tun perform 10 day marathon concert to break some record.
2. Dress in the latest fashions: Japan must look at Kat-tun and not the runways for the latest trends.
3. Latest hairstyles: Anime must look to Kat-tun for the latest Anime hair.
4. Write own songs: creates deeper relationship between fans and the members and fuels rumors of member love.
5. Play own instrument: makes you look cool, especially with pink petals falling on you and the instrument.
6. Act in dramas: Keep a foot in all areas of media and show off Kat-tun's thespian skills.
7. Variety program: Use cartoon Kat-tun to promote yourself and your talents. Practice your latest moves and melting looks.
Akanishi Jin= Fail in all priorities...
P.S. Bandage is an exception because Johnny-san made him do it even though Ueda Tatsuya would have been more appropriate for the role of rock-star!!!
