[Kono had spent most of yesterday wandering around and gathering supplies and whatever she could improvise into weapons. Investigating with Peter had confirmed that the worst was yet to come - whoever "they" were from the Mayor's suicide note.
She heard the engines around midnight and watched from the rubble as the trucks came to a stop. The

He looks over to Kono. She's clearly shell-shocked. He can't blame her; she was really in the thick of it there. And all the training in the world doesn't prepare you for packs of monsters. Hell, his super-hero "training" only goes over the basics....]
...So, uh... wow. Right?!

Yeah. You ok?

Oh, me? I'm dandy! Heh. That thing? It's scary and all, but it doesn't even come CLOSE to my boss Jameson when he hasn't had a coffee yet and I ask him for a raise. ...Granted, he's never tried to SWALLOW me, but... that's probably more because I'm so lean and his wife Marla has him on a diet.
...Then again, I think that would make me the perfect meal for him... hmm. Now I'm confused.

Peter, sit down already.

Up already? I didn't even have to wake you this shift.
[He squints at the bottom of the door frame, where he can see some light filtering through.]
Ugh, it's morning already? Swell. My joints feel all stiff... obviously I did not spend the night at the Radisson like I dreamed I did. I'm gonna write a bad review on the Web, TRUST ME.

You clearly had better dreams than I did, brah. I'd even take a bad tourist motel right about now.
[Slowly, she pulls herself to her feet. Now that Peter's mentioned it, her own joints feel stiff and achy. She figures it's from the fight with the cannibal on Saturday more than anything.]
The sooner we go, the sooner we'll get to the Bunker Street. You know which house it is, right?

[He glances at the door, then back to Kono, pondering. Maybe it's best if they stay... indoors. Away from the air.
...No. They can't survive down here. There's no food, no water... they need supplies. Besides, there's a chance they can still get through this. ...Right? He decides to stop thinking, which is easier than the alternative.]

To be perfectly honest, she's scared of what they're going to find once they venture out. Things seem to get worse and worse each day. What if everyone else was a cannibal now? What if there were now worse things than the cannibals? More than anything Kono wants to be home, where she can sit in her office alone or catch a wave or two after a bad day. Here, she doesn't think she's going to get that kind of relief.
However, now is not the time to wallow. Taking a deep breath, she nods to Peter.]
Lead the way then. I'll cover you.

She just can't leave him like that.
Watching to make sure that she's not being followed by cannibals, Kono makes her way into the alley and crouches down next to her hoax husband.]
Fassad? What happened? [She can guess, but still isn't sure what else to say.]

There are more wounds all over his body, but that was the most visible.]
A death with less wounds takes more time. But I would not let those filthy creatures have another bite.
Reply
But she bites her tongue. He's right. The world as they've known it in Mayfield has been destroyed. Fassad's wounds are too great for him to survive. Kono doesn't like it, but he's right. She takes a deep breath.]
Well, at least there's that. Damn cannibals, right?
