Piecing things together again

Wow, this journal gets dustier and dustier.  I used to be on here daily, at least reading my Friends Page even though I wasn't doing much updating myself.  Now I check out the FP once a month, and even then I'm skipping most of the comm posts.

I know, this is a fascinating intro to a rare update.

Anyhow, I'm just in the mood to put something out ( Read more... )

You know, I hardly ever sign into my journal anymore. And yet, today on a whim I decided to do so. The first thing that I read was this.

And, as strange as it sounds, I think that is awesome. I see it as a good fit for you. (Besides, I'm an anthropology major, remember? I, too, have extensively studied this kind of thing--although not to the same extent. *grin*) I have always admired you for your vision, and I am excited to see you putting the pieces together.

Go you!

(I've been sort of floundering myself... In April, I was let go of my job, so I've been spending the last few months trying to establish myself as a full-time Etsy seller. Most of my writing recently has been going into that endeavor--I write individual stories for all my pieces. Thank goodness I, too, have supportive family!)

Thanks! So far, the handful of people I've told all agree that it's a great idea and that I should absolutely pursue it. Of course, I'm cracking up at the entry I posted a few months ago about how I dislike funeral homes and embalming because of the weird unnaturalness of the whole thing. Still true. But I do understand that some people do need that whole facade in order to cope with the experience of losing someone, so in that vein I'm very much interested in serving them and doing my best to help them through a very difficult period.

That being said, I think I'd actually prefer the crematorium side of things rather than the embalming/viewing side (despite a rather grotesque moment in a dream I had the other night. Funny in hindsight, if you have a grim sense of humor, but definitely repulsive at the time of the dream). And definitely the new-old alternatives.

What's the name of your Etsy store? I remember poking around there when you first launched it, but it's been a while since I've been on that site.

Heh... I remember that post.

I also remember in the very first class I took in Anthropology, we spent at least a week on funerary practices all over the world. It is very interesting learning of the different customs--all of which are aimed towards easing the deceased into the beyond, but beyond that function as a comfort for those still living. From the Ancient Egyptians who tried to stave off decay, to the Chinese who revere the ashes of their ancestors--it's absolutely fascinating. (Also interesting are the mourning colors chosen by different cultures--black here in the states, but white in India, and so forth.)

Anyway, I digress. I think you'll do wonderfully at all you put your mind to--and I hope your journey goes well!

Oh, and my Etsy store is anafiassa.etsy.com, and the companion store inspiration blog is (surprise, surprise), anafiassa.blogspot.com. Only if you're interested, of course. :)

Finding your path is always a wonderful thing!

I'm in a similar situation as you were up until this point. But my problem is my dreams and pursuits would take too long to start bringing income. *sigh*

Anyway, best of luck with this! You deserve a break!

Hey there
Costs is always issue. When you think travelling you think that the cheapest is busów wynajem but you need to choose carefully.

See you
