My advice would be to buy a copy of a book called A Place in My Country (available from all big bookstores or at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Place-My-Country-Search-Rural/dp/029785173X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/026-0589804-1215606?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1185280780&sr=8-1
then read it, and then focus on the Cotswolds. You'll leave with a better understanding of the reality of English rural life than you could possibly imagine.
