Aw, Sue. I went through a very similar situation with my previous cat.
She was just a little younger than your Geoffrey. I was so hoping she'd pass away without me having to make that terrible decision, but unfortunately it wasn't to be. :-(
I hope you'll both have a few more happy months together, and that nature will be kind.
Geoffrey is a wonderful cat and I can see why you love him so much. He is very old, though, incredibly so, and you'vwe given him an amazing life. I know you'll miss him when he goes, and I know you'll do the right thing when the time is right. (((((strokes to Geoffrey))))
My sister took the same approach with their dog ... they nursed him to the end. Just made him comfortable as best they could. Took it day by day because they too didn't want to put him down, and they wound up not having to. They felt better with their decision.
Thanks Annette. It seems more natural to let nature take its course. I've always felt I knew if he was ill or distressed just from the look in his eyes. He doesn't seem to be suffering from anything more than a slight surprise to find himself so weak. I hope he just goes in his sleep one night. Though of course I hope that he will actually rally again like he did last year. :)
