(I thought that this film was very accessible to a Western audience, which makes me wonder whether it was cut differently for us.)
- The original For China release was two 2-hour movies. So, yeah, it was cut differently. Apparently they cut out a lot of exposition scenes from the beginning, like a tiger hunt where the riding, shooting, spying princess is first introduced but with some recut scenes to help us Westerners understand what's going on. So if it doesn't make sense in places, there are reasons. (I looked it up on Wikipedia.) I have to admit that I totally lost track of who a lot of the generals and advisors were. But I understood the ending, so I guess it must be alright.
