driving

In the city I am at ease at the wheel. I find it simple weaving in and out of traffic, yielding, merging, stopping at pedestrian crosswalks. It is a familiar, crowded environment. Nothing is unexpected.

Out in the country, however, I drive with both hands gripped firmly to the steering wheel. My cagey eyes dance from one view to the next. It ( Read more... )

I like driving out in east jaboo with nothing but the lack of civilization around me... especially when I see the reflected glow of eyes staring back at me and my incessant chant of "Please don't run out in the road... Please don't run out in the road... Please don't run out in the road..." kicks in.

...I can't help but believe that I am going to be raped and stabbed while stopped at a train crossing late at night. No surrounding lights, nothing: just me, the red flashing barrier lights and the darkness. It's bound to happen, which is why I am a blink away from putting the car into reverse.

I like taking slow drives through the country. Unfortunately the speed limits are like 65 mph* for those tiny little roads, and mother fuckers are always on your ass.

*65 mph = 483 kph
