What about using a temp agency?
I know many people who have gotten jobs for a year or two through a temp agency. Maybe ask Alaya, or Rachelle (don't know if you know her) about their experiences. Or, if you still want to go the transcription route, there are local companies in Boston, I think there's one right at Park St.

I'll keep an ear out for you, though I don't know how much help I'll be in that regard.
What type of stuff are you looking for at this point?

I had a good experience with PSG, but that was a few years ago and I don't know how it is all working these days. They seemed to mostly deal with run-of-the-mill low-level administration, but they did take my interests into account as much as possible (They put me in a low-level admin job at Berklee, where I was surrounded by music people, at least!)

Thanks, Gianna. I'm relatively flexible in the type of work I'd be willing to do, but my major restrictions are scheduling-related. In order to not conflict with being a musician, finding gigs and keeping the ones I have, I'm looking for something that doesn't need my evenings and weekends (or, if they sometimes do, can be flexible about when and which ones.) This seems to knock out a lot of retail, and much of the restaurant business (although I love to cook and think that would be a great job for me if it were compatible with erratic musical schedules for my nights and weekends ( ... )

Yeah, I passed their initial test (grammar) and their second test (actually transcribing something) and thought I basically had the job. After transcribing their training pieces as well, though, apparently not. Amazing that they can be that picky at barely-over-minimum-wage, but it seems like they can. I suppose when there are this many unemployed, and you can draw your applicants from all over the world rather than a small localized area, you'd tend to have a lot to choose from.

That does suck. Have you considered doing Kaplan or something else? Try not to be too hard on yourself, btw -- I went through a *lot* of jobfail when I got out, because I'm just terrible in an office environment where I have to do multitasking and juggle politics.

Mmm, Kaplan? Hadn't thought of that. With a 1550 on the SATs, I suppose I have some credibility for that particular job. I'll look into whether they have openings. Thanks!

Just as a warning, I also had a 1550 on the SATs, and I sent them my resume last year when I was unemployed and they didn't want me.

Anyway, good luck, and hugs!

The good thing about coming back to MA for summer: I have at least one guaranteed job, one almost guaranteed, and one other potential if they need summer help.

In MA I'm a desirable commodity. This is apparently also true with guys.

Vancouver, pick it up!
