Phew. These past few days! Basically, I had Tuesday through Thursday off, which meant two things: 1. I got a lot of reading and writing done. Most of the writing ended up getting deleted (by me, on purpose) because it wasn't up to par. And 2. taking a lot of pictures. I've probably taken over 700, maybe 300 of which I was even remotely happy with, ( Read more... )

I love On Chesil Beach! Did you hear McEwan was sued for taking a rock from the beach? I thought it was really funny when I heard that.

And the Eternal Sunshine commentary is so good. It stands alone as a completly amazing way to watch a movie that was already so completly amazing.

I didn't know that! It's so great, though. How funny.

I'm actually kind of amazed you've heard of him. I have no idea, really, how well known of an author he is, I seemed to pick up The Comfort of Strangers out of complete obscurity, and fell completely in love with him. But I've never heard anyone else talk about him before, or even know who he is when I bring him up in conversation, which, granted, isn't often.

How'd you come across him?

There was acutally like a bunch of random things that ended up having me find him. I read a review of On Chesil Beach in Entertainment Weekly, and they really liked it, so that peeked my intrest. Then Amazon, for some odd reason, sent me the SAME book as a recomendation because I had just bought a bevy of Michael Chabon books. Personally, I don't see too strong of a connection between the two authors - Amazon's recomendations are often random. BUT! It made me realize that it was not just luck that this book had caught my eye. SO, I took a risk and just bought it.

And I ADORED it. The 60's sexual revolution is one of my favorite aspects of history, literature, etc. And the fact that he places a story beforehand just really intrested me. I love his writing style too! It's this completly brutal and raw aspect of sexuality, but he writes his characters and situations so lyrcally. He's just an amazing writter, and i'm so glad to have found someone who's heard of him/this book!

Also, I'm LOVING On Chesil Beach so far. He has the most incredible way of writing about peoples' most uncomfortable and awkward moments, as well as the most loving and tender. It's so beautiful.
