Disappointment and time to just let go

Mar 08, 2011 12:14

I would just like to congratulate these people for their outstanding generosity in doing absolutely nothing...it was really great of you guys to offer yourselves up for charity auctions and then as soon as my donations were made you all stopped talking to me. Way to go on your civic spirit! I don't even feel bad about outing you. Perhaps if you had ( Read more... )

Oh, someone with a track record like mine. I know this doesn't get you your goodies, but maybe to know you aren't alone in the disappointment might help a little. I just remind myself that at least I supported a good cause at the time.

I think what ripped my undies more was that they all signed up for the following auctions without ever completing mine :(

Okay, seriously? I normally avoid this kind of stuff, but if you want to call people out do it on your flist instead of throwing a tantrum that the website has migrated/is down or what have you.

Fanfic auctions, just like exchanges, have a low rate of returns a lot of times, and some of us just end up on the short end of the stick.

Don't try to call out the entire community. Just gah.

I'm not calling out the entire community, it seems that for the most part, everyone got what they donated for, I'm just calling out the ones who did it to me personally.

Seriously, the short end of the stick doesn't even cover it, there are four other charity auctions where people did this to me, but I can't cover those as well :(

Wow. Why keep bidding through 2010 with that kind of experience?

I guess I'm just a sucker for charities and since I can't do anything to help, the lease I can do is donate

Yeah, I generally donate to my favorite charities when I don't want to do the auctions. Between Doctors Without Borders, Human Rights Campaign, and the animal rescue group I work with I'm all set!

I tend to donate to SPCA and animal charities where I can.

Charity auctions have a different purpose than auctions for goods or services. So while it sucks that people repeatedly defaulted on your bids, I think you should let it go rather than trying to piss on the auction and the people who participated 3 years after the fact. That'd be the more...charitable.... thing to do.

I feel that people should be made to realise that donating their services to charity auctions and then renegging is something that just isn't done! Someone has to be the bad guy and actually let them know, else they just keep on doing it and disappointing more people.

I'm not pissing on the auction, I love charity auctions, and my last few have been a wonderfully giving experience. Which is probably why I continued to take part for all the years the auction was running, I never let the bad outweigh the good, but I've reached the point where I really need to just say something to the people who, quite frankly, sucked for doing what they did!

WELL DONE YOU!

I thoroughly applaud you for bringing this TO THE APPROPRIATE COMMUNITY and for outting the tosspots who let you down.

I think it is disgraceful and quite frankly stinks that they offer up their services and then renege. I know its charity BUT you paid good money for THEIR services.

I totally agree with you outting them on here - what the hell is the point of just doing it on your own LJ??? Show the wankers up on here!!!

What has disappointed me is a. that more people havent supported you and b. that no one has come forward to offer to pinch-hit!

Thank you so much for saying what you have, I know it's not a popular thing to do, being the bad guy, but sometimes it's just necessary to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else.

I've accepted that I won't get pinch-hits, I just wanted to make the people who let the charity down, and let me down, feel bad for what they did. It's nice to know I have a few people in my corner. Because I'm not attacking the charity or the auction, at all, I'm just standing up for myself, and honestly, it took a lot of courage for me to even post this :{

Also...Brodie FTW! I totally need to pull out my Professionals dvd and watch it again!
