FRIENDS CUT

Once in a while I do a friends cut. I'm always nervous and sad doing these, as most times I do them because some people haven't updated their journal in a long time. It's not necessarily that I feel malice, and for many I continue to have warm feelings and am sad the connection is broken due to lack of contact. However, it's pointless to keep ( Read more... )

i practically never cut
the few times i did it was because the person's journal seemed too intimate for someone i did not really know

i keep the names of people no longer here because i want to remember them

I never had that issue of a journal being *too* personal, but I can see where that could make me feel uncomfortable.

"i keep the names of people no longer here because i want to remember them"

That is exactly why it took me so long. I have such wonderful memories of some of those people. Always will. But - my list was getting so difficult to manage. There were more that weren't around than are.

Friend cuts are hard to do, but sometimes are necessary. Especially when you read a name in your list and you have no idea about who they are.

That's interesting because there were one or two names I totally didn't recognize either, even when I went back to their profile and journal. It was surely time to take them off my f/l.

It needs to be done sometimes.

I have someone who has been on my list from nearly the beginning of LJ and she pops back in, makes a few posts, and then disappears for a couple years. It's odd.

I've noticed that same habit among a few of my LJ friends. If I felt a connection, I left them there. Maybe they will come back ... yet again?!

I know there are some people who really WOULD like to journal here again, and every so often resolve to renew their journal. They remember the good times. But, they realize that it maybe was mostly nostalgia that brought them back, and not the reality of their life today. LJ isn't like they remembered with so many gone and FB's "quickie updating" taking precedence. Then, like most "resolutions", it dissolves.

LJ -- HAS changed. I remember the heyday between around 2004 - 2008. You cannot replicate that, but you can embrace what "is" now, different though it be. And, I'm enjoying what "is" now.
