Proud to be an American?
Back home, I get a kick out of talking to the waitstaff in Chinese restaurants in Mandarin. They are usually really surprised and happy, and sometimes they chat with me a bit. However, the fact that I can often get a similar response in Beijing is kind of embarrassing. -

After over a year of speaking no Chinese at all, one of the first people I got to know at the law school was from Beijing!
