i went to columbia, it's a very fun school right downtown. it's very expensive though and it's definitely the kind of school that you need to know what you want to do when you get there, it's not an easy place to try and find direction in a career pursuit. in terms of academics, most of the teachers are pretty apathetic because most of them aren't real teachers, they work in the field and teach part time as an extra source of money. this can be really cool when you don't want to do your homework or when you need to make connections, but academically you won't get a whole hell of a lot. individualized programs are taught by people who work in the field which is great for finding internships and learning from someone who has been where you are. i don't know much about the music department but i haven't heard anything bad so there's that.
i dont know if you've been to columbia yet but i would recommend checking it out before you go. it's a pretty neat school but it's definitely not right for everyone. good luck in figuring things out!

Yeah I am looking to go visit their after their winter break, although I am probably going to submit my application before I go. I know I want to stick within music and go their for a performance degree in music, so I know what I want to pursue if I go their. Did they give you any help with financial aid and such to help with the cost? I know cost is a big issue for me about going their.

I will probably being going to Chicago by way of MegaBus come sometime in January, do you know of any place to stay that is centraly located to columbia and a decent price for about 2 nights?
