swingathon: part two!

Nov 02, 2008 13:12

It's time for round two! That is, if people are interested. Leave a comment with thoughts/suggestions. I have a kind of crazy idea, but I want to hear what other people think. Also, I need another mod! Actually, maybe two. I HAVE BIG PLANS. hehe. It would be great if you were interested if you left a comment and a few words on your modding ( Read more... )

I'd love to help mod with you. Only because I desperately want the power HAAAA HAAA HAAAA to help :0)

To be honest, I ran across a fic written for the first round and it's what got me into Chad/Ryan in the first place. I'm not sure if I'll be able to write something, but I want to be involved.

I had a lot of fun with the first Swingathon, and loved so many of the stories written for it, but I do have one concern:

While I can understand why you're thinking of doing this again now, given the movie, you might want to reconsider the timing. What with NaNo, Yuletide, and a slew of existing single-fandom exchanges, November/December is a time when a lot of writers either overcommit (leading to defaulting) or are afraid of overcommitting (leading to limiting how many things they sign up for). I know that I, personally, will be too busy focusing on Yuletide--especially since it's getting a late start this year--to even think of signing up for anything else until January.

Although it's possible I'm the only person who'd ordinarily be interested in another Swingathon who'll just be too busy to do one at this time of year, it's something to think about.

No, I totally agree with this. Especially since this looks like the first year I'll actually be able to finish NaNo, and then I'll have Yuletide. And a few other things I need to write for winter holiday gifts.

I'm not sure when the first Swingathon was? (I'll be looking into in a few minutes, because now I'm really curious -- I just wasn't into Ryan/Chad the last time around.) But it might be interesting to look at it as a regular yearly thing? And if so, finding a good time to fit it in among a lot of the other big non-fandom and multi-fandom things would be good. Maybe January-Feburary?

actually that's a really excellent point. i did sort of figure most of it was wrapping up because i know the one holiday exchange im in has a mid november due date and the due date for this would be significantly after that as we are just starting now and those fests began....like in august if i recall correctly. right now we are just in the very beginning stages, im projecting due dates like in feb or march even. but other fests are definitely something i want to keep tabs on to make sure all those who want to participate can!

Most of the year-end exchanges I know of have due dates sometime in December--Yuletide hasn't even opened signups yet! So there are definitely a lot still to come for some people.

I'd be interested in participating especially since the deadline would be next year. I've never written Chad/Ryan before, but I have read quite a bit of fiction and I've written in other fandoms.

As far as modding goes, while it sounds like fun I'd have to pass at this point because I have too many things on my plate both online and in RL right now to take on another project and do it well. My apologies.

I prefer challenges to competitions, but I'm willing to do both.

I would love to participate in this. A lot of my favorite Chayan fics came from the last swingathon. I think having the deadline be some time next year is an excellent idea. I too would prefer a challenge to a competition. Can't wait to hear more details on this!

I am very interested in participating in another swingathon! I must agree with the above statements, though, and say that having a due date after the holidays would be best. I don't participate in any other holiday fic exchanges, but that's because RL at this time of year is just too busy!

The idea of a contest is, honestly, completely unappealing to me. I want to write for someone, and have someone write for me -- it's the fun of giving and receiving good fic. Competing to write the "best" would take all the fun out of it. I wouldn't participate if it were a contest.
