oh the idea of chad and ryab forming a little book club together and starting to date because of it makes me feel alllllllllll warm and fuzzy inside. like, really, SO adorable. the books and the movies made their relationship so dynamic and it made me jealous! i want a book club with my boyfriend because that is just too cute for words. and i liked the way you worked in troy sharpay. the drama was very lowkey, but it was there and it totally worked.
i must say you probably could have done without the footnotes and alternatively just tried to work some background into the story, especially with the jam thing and the wickham comparison, but overall i thought this was really well done and it made me smile all over the place!
Awww, I love the idea of Ryan and Chad bonding over books--especially Austen! (Though I have to disagree with them about the North American ending of the 2005 adaptation; so very glad I happenedd to be in Europe between its opening there and in the US, so I saw it without that horrible scene first. *ahem* I'm not actually a purist--overall that's my favourite adaptation of P&P, except maybe for Bride and Prejudice--but that scene? So very un-Austen-like.) It's particularly ironic for me because I was introduced to HSM by someone I know through Austen fandom.
The thought of Troy as Wickham, btw, is priceless.
Anyway, I love how seamlessly they moved from friends to boyfriends, like it was no big deal and the most natural thing in the world.
Any time an OTP of mine is mixed with Jane Austen, I'm bound to love it. ^.^
Oh, man, it this was really, really good.
Yay for Chad liking Persuasion, which is actually my favorite Austen book.
The 2005 adaptation of P&P (as much as I love Keira Knightley) makes me cringe. I really dislike the constant giggling and a few of the scenes that just kind of pull me out of the movie (like when Lizzy shows up at Netherfield with her hair down, or that *horrible* ending scene. ack). I thought I'd like Keira as Elizabeth, but, eh. Not really. I did like Matthew Macfadyen as Darcy, though.
I guess if you own two miniseries versions, a condensed movie version isn't going to cut it. XD
I flailed when you mentioned Brave New World. I wanted to read that for English this year, but I chose Wuthering Heights instead (since I liked Jane Eyre and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall so much)... and I hated Wuthering Heights... so, yeah, I'm kind of bitter that I didn't read Brave New World. :-(
And when they stopped dancing and Ryan’s hands skimmed up
( ... )
I actually read Pride and Prejudice even though I wasn't required to (so that's contrary to what Chad believes... hee). But Chad loving Austen...hmm...who knows (I mean, I think Austen's too girly, and I'm a girl, so...)? Weirder things have happened.
Troy as Wickham? Definitely not a nice way to think of one's best friend! But was that the implied one-sided Chad/Troy because I couldn't think of anything else?
I got together with my ex over Jane Eyre specifically and books in general, so this story really resonated with me. I especially liked how they seamlessly flowed from being friends to being more than friends.
