So I've been here about two weeks now, but most of my luggage only got here on Saturday so I'm not really unpacked yet. Still living out of a suitcase, bit I've done that loads of times before so no worries

Oil prices are rising constantly which in turn drives up the price of everything else (since its a petroleum based economy). The dollar is becoming ever weaker and is constantly on the brink of out and out collapse (though they are working damn hard to prevent that). Socially its scary how many laws get broken in the name of "defending the homeland" and "counter-terrorism." Hopefully with the next administration that will be curbed, i.e. we'll stop saying the US doesn't have to follow the Geneva Convention. We're one of five countries that didn't sign the international ban on land mines (the other 4 being Israel, China, India and Pakistan). We backed out of the Kyoto protocol. Its illegal to make news broadcasts about Mad Cow in the United States (due lobbying by the cattle industry its very difficult) even if there are documented cases of it in people. With NAFTA if a Canadian company is putting toxic by products in food being sent to the US it is illegal for the US to pass laws "inhibiting free trade." The list goes on and
