Mom drug both our dogs to the groomers yesterday. For our lhasa apso, it was a normal trip. For our poor rat terrier, Penny, however, it turned into an adventure

Penny's one of those dogs where, if you put her in a sweater, she'll just stand there in abject horror...which is also hilarious to watch.
She's mostly over it now and the amount of fur on the floor has dropped significantly which Mom is happy about. We just have to be sure not to leave her out too long or she'll get sunburned. XD
Lol. Poor baby. Who shaves a short haired dog? Strange that the groomer would do that. Hope she isn't too upset. Sometimes the dogs hide when they get a haircut.
Penny's taking it all in stride which is to say begging for belly rubs and treats as she always does.
On the plus side, the amount of hair to sweep up has gone *way* down which the family's happy about. Considering the sheer quantity of hair that little dog can produce (we're talking full shopping bags worth!), I wouldn't be surprised if Mom shaved her down again next year.
It's already started. On the plus side though the amount of hair they're shedding has gone WAY down so there's less to sweep up. Total semi-intentional bonus! XD
That happened with my long haired cat. He was all matted, and I told them to shave the matted areas. When I came to pick him up, they had given him a lion cut -- hair on the head, end of tail, and boots on his feet, and nothing else. He HATED it! When I got him home and out of the carrier, he just stood there like "WTF happened to my fur????" He was very aloof for several days, then finally came around. We NEVER got that cut again LOL! But he did look cute!
The mental image of your poor cat is hilarious! I've seen one or two cut in that style and they always seem less than pleased though I think that might have more to do with the cats being less than impressed with the human they own pulling such a stunt!
My guess is that your groomer probably cut out the mats and it looked uneven so they went a step further. That would be my guess anyway.
Penny doesn't seem to even notice any difference except she doesn't sun herself as long. We do have to keep an eye on her and let her in sooner though because she'd easily sunburn.
On the plus side, there's WAY less hair to sweep up. I think Mom's keen on shaving her butt down again when she starts shedding her winter coat next year.
