Well FU, too, Power Company!

Jul 03, 2014 18:44

25 hours ago, the family was sitting watching a movie on netflix when there was a loud 'BAM!' like a really big car door being slammed hard followed by a flash or brilliant white then white/blue.

And then the power went out to half the house.

25 hours of hellish temps )

Holy shit that's awful! Our AC wasn't working last Friday night. House was 85 all night (wer're in South Florida). Luckily we already had a service call set up for Saturday and it was fixed around 2pm. But it took 6 hours to get down to 75. So I know what you went thru.

DEFINITELY pursue getting them to pay! Call the Attorney Generals office and file a complaint to get it on record. That's unconscionable that they would leave such a dangerous situation!

Hope you're cool now!

We're in Louisiana about 30 miles from the Gulf so I totally feel your pain. Having an AC in this weather really is a quality of life issue!

We didn't realize that it was as serious as it was. Before they had put the cable tie and the flags, the boot was in place. But in the two years since we reported it, the heavy rains we got wore the plastic "boot" off.

Will definitely suggest to Dad about calling the attorney general! Hadn't really thought that far ahead.

It's best to file the complaint while everything is fresh in everyone's mind, especially with the danger factor!

Hope you keep cool, my southern neighbor 😄

He's planning on doing it, but, because it's the 4th of July weekend, we have to wait until Monday to do anything. :P

I hope so, too. I know Dad's pretty hacked off about it -- especially since we reported the problem 2 years ago.

I certainly hope he does get the money back. He hasn't seen the bill yet, but that's going to be a big one considering it's not only all those parts but also nearly a full day's labor! He's going to have to wait until at least Monday to get legal actions going though because it's the 4th of July weekend.

And, on an unrelated note, your icon's beautiful! :D

OMGosh, sweetie, what an unfortunate adventure. I'm glad you are relatively back to normal and hope your power company learned something from this. Garbage in, garbage out. They should most definitly pay for your AC. It's the least they can do.

I hope so! Something tells me though that they'll fight it because it's not going to be a cheap bill! I'm just glad the AC company came out first thing the next day! I can't imagine how bad it would have been if we had had to wait until after the July 4th holiday weekend!

OMG that is a scary situation. Glad you were able to get it fixed. Good luck on the reimbursement from the power company. We are fighting a 400 dollar bill from the water company that we incurred during the time we had no water. They are blaming us for the water not working. So hope you win.
Hugs

Utility companies will do everything in their power to squeeze every last dime out of you that they can while having to pony up as little as possible. In short, they'rte D-bags. LOL!

We're waiting on the AC bill still; their office is a bit behind because of the long holiday weekend. Until then, the ball can't get rolling. :P

How scary the whole situation was. I would be like your Dad, I would definitely expect the power company to foot the bill for the AC, they would have to pay here.

they would have to pay here.
Yet another way the US is behind Australia and many other countries.

In the US, the government's set up to protect big business/rich, self-entitled a-holes rather than "the little people". It'll no doubt be an uphill battle. The whole situation is just annoying. :P

We're still in a waiting pattern because Dad needs the AC bill before he can proceed. Their office is backlogged because of the long holiday weekend (it was Independence Day here on the 4th)
