Summary: Kibum is just Kibum. Perhaps one day Donghae will find someone who accepts that.
"I really like Siwon, Kibummie," Donghae mentioned one night as they sat out the back, drinking wine and surveying the stars. "I feel right with him. Righter than with the others."
(Kibum feels that too. Sips his wine.)
"I mean, he's lasted this long… I've stopped expecting things to go wrong."
(A memory of misery, tears on smooth cheeks, but that's over now.)
Donghae falls silent and crosses his ankles, stretching his legs out in front of him.
(Kibum holds his hand between their chairs.)
They sit in silence like that for half an hour more. Donghae tilts his head to rest his cheek on their clasped knuckles after he swirls the last of his wine in his glass and throws it down his throat.
(The evening is perfect.)
Siwon gets up before Donghae every morning without fail; he usually walks down the hall to the bathroom completely naked, offering a small smile to Kibum if they should happen to pass.
(Kibum can see that Donghae is becoming the centre of Siwon's world and he approves.)
After he's showered he comes to the kitchen and makes himself his morning coffee, before helping Kibum with the breakfast or sitting down to read the newspaper.
(There's a naturalness to the 'thank you' he murmurs as Kibum places the food in front of him.)
Sometimes Donghae is awake before Siwon leaves to work, sometimes he isn't. Sometimes he leaves to have lunch with Siwon, or afternoon tea, or they go for a date at night. They usually end up back at the house for the night. Donghae prefers to sleep in his own room, instead of someone else's.
(Kibum wonders if Siwon has found himself an explanation, or if he's stopped searching for one. The way he looks at Kibum is slowly but surely evolving.)
It's on a sunny Saturday that Kibum is hanging the whites on the washing line. He starts with the socks and underwear on the inside strings of the hills hoist, then shirts and pillowcases on the centre lines, finishing with the sheets on the outside. He's hanging up the first shirt when Donghae and Siwon come to help him.
(Their fingers are tangled as they approach.)
They each grab a handful of pegs and a couple of shirts - since Siwon has started spending so much time here there are more than usual - and spread out to hang them up. Donghae is humming and Siwon sings along with words when he recognizes the tune.
(Kibum grins to himself because music is always good.)
Kibum grabs one end of the ample sheet and Donghae the other. They swing it over the line and lose themselves in the folds blowing in the wind.
(Donghae finds Kibum somewhere in the middle and kisses him; their lips brush, only for a moment, because Donghae is happy and that's what they do when Donghae is happy.)
Donghae finds Siwon in the other sheet and Kibum leaves them to it, tucking the basket under one arm and carrying it back inside.
"Let's go for a walk, Kibummie," Donghae says one day, because it's spring and Siwon is at work.
"Coming," Kibum accepts.
(Kibum is the one who locates Donghae's hat in the depths of his closet.)
They leave the house and the keys jangle in Donghae's pocket as he drops them in. They make their way to the pebble beach on the lake's edge and skim stones across the pristine surface, and Donghae worries about hitting fish on the head.
(Their fingers intertwine as they make their way along the bank; as they start to walk back, as Donghae points to clouds that make recognizable shapes.)
There's a beetle on a leaf that shines purple, blue and green on its black shell, and Kibum drops to a squat as Donghae stops short to admire it.
(Minseok, Donghae decides the beetle's name is.)
They stumble across a spring fair - Kibum says stumble, but he suspects that Donghae had planned it before they left - and Donghae sees a hundred things that inspire him and entrance him and Kibum buys him whatever he wants because he can.
(He's not sure how, but the fact is that he can - so the how and why don't matter.)
Kibum has a book in his hands, and the words are flowing into his mind while Donghae and Siwon make out on the couch beside him.
(It's the first time he's able to concentrate on both. Donghae and Siwon combined are enough to take care of Donghae.)
He's outside with his wine while they make love inside. He crosses his legs and gazes up at the sky while Donghae's shy words echo in his mind.
"I feel right with him. Righter than with the others."
(Good, that's good.)
There's only one wall that separates them and Kibum feels fine.
(A change from before, when it would have been 'there is an entire wall separating us'.)
It is a beautiful evening, and for once, Kibum feels completely satisfied.
("Siwon, I love you."
"I love you too, Donghae.")
"Siwon said something funny today," Donghae says, head in Kibum's lap while Kibum plays with his hair.
"Oh?"
"Yes." Donghae lifts the hand of Kibum's that isn't in his hair and inspects it absently. "He asked me about you."
(A chuckle; oh, Siwon.)
"What did he ask?"
"He said, 'does Kibum exist?'," Donghae tells him, lips pushed forward.
(Kibum is laughing; Donghae can't see, hear or feel, but he is laughing.)
"Well," he says, tilting his head back and eyeing a cobweb on the wall, "That is funny."
