TCGPlayer $5k tournament in Philly today. I expect about 3 of you reading this to understand any of it at all, and about one of you to have anything approaching knowledge of the cards being talked about...

Tournament Report. )

I guess the only thing I understand in this is that ccommack is not the only one playing $NK tournaments. Although $5K is the prize pool in yours, not the buy-in, right? And the cards are different? d-:

Yeah, the 5 grand is split amongst the top finishers. Also, this tournament sucks since there's no pack prize support. At all.

Y'know, I had this same exact thought about an hour ago, after watching the end of the game.

Man, round 7 is exactly what I hate about IRL magic. Stalling for the win is just awful. That said, I imagine playing that game on mtgo would also make me want to cry... clicking all those tokens every turn!

And yeah, that fetchland thing is hilarious. I've been playing a lot of Zendikar block constructed on mtgo and that situation has come up for me several times, both cracking fetches and not being able to get anything with them and drawing a fetch that I know I can't crack for mana. Of course by that point I rarely if ever actually need the land...

It's a shame ZBC is pretty much a mtgo-only format. It's ridiculous how many viable decks there are considering how small the cardpool is. There are at least 3 major archetypes that are clearly worth of T1 status with multiple viable builds plus an additional 5+ T2 worthy archetypes each of which again has multiple viable builds... and honestly I think there are more out there that haven't really been discovered yet.

I know this is like 2 years after the fact, but I was just going over my match histories and discovered that I faced a hell of a murderer's row of players this tournament. I already mentioned that Sukenik was my Round 4 opponent. What I just discovered was that my Rd 6 opp was Edgar Flores, my Rd 7 opp was Mike Eisenhauer, and my Rd 9 opp was Nick Spagnolo.

Dear God.
