mp3 players

I want an mp3 player. It's time to buy myself something nice. I refuse to use iTunes on principle that they do funky copyright stuff and thanks, but I paid for at least 75% of the music on my computer. That does not mean an iPod is out of the question; I hear there are plug-ins you can get that enable you to make it work with other programs. ( Read more... )

iTunes can play plain old unprotected mp3s. It can also rip cds to plain old unprotected mp3s, but you need to change one setting in the preferences. It defaults to the protected thing, but it's really easy to disable.

If you don't want to do an iPod, I've heard good things about the Creative Zen Xtra, which I believe comes in 20 GB and 40 GB. I almost bought the 40 GB model when they came down to $299 at Best Buy, but they were out that day ( ... )

That's what I'm hearing. I've heard one "I've broken two in one month" review and several other "I love it to death" reviews. I'm gonna go to Best Buy and look at them soon.

a number of reasons...

1) The screen is excellent quality. David has figured out to record his favorite shows (like Monty Python), convert them to digital format, and download them on his iPod.

2) It has an address book, some fun little games, can store your digital pictures. You can also hook up the iPod to a TV to show your pictures as a slide show, with music from your iPod.

3) I really like the organization system of iPod, too.

4) It even has different clocks you can set for different timezones. Since David has colleagues in Germany, he automatically knows what time it is there.

5) Neat accessories, like the iTrip, which allows you to broadcast your iPod through the radio in your car or wherever. I haven't listened to commerical radio in the three years since I got my iPod.

I love my ipod - 60 GB of music it holds is more than even my computer can take! I like it because it's popular, so many of the accessories available for mp3 players are compatible with it, plus I have a weakness for the Apple design of menus and such.
