i've stopped going to ani shows because they've gotten too expensive and too crowded. bah.
yeah, i picked up the promo because i knew of andrew bird from him touring with ani, coupled with the fact that it was on righteous babe records. although i picked up the arto lindsay album a few weeks and and didn't dig that very much. but this was a pleasant surprise.
if i'm coming up to new york it would be in about a week... i haven't sat down and figured out the logistics yet because i'm right in the middle of finals. i'm also going to montana at the end of the month so i really need to sit down and figure out dates and finances and such. jetblue was having a special from NO to NYC that was $63 each way... i still need ot see if there is availability on that.
as far as banal... i said it the same way as you guys, and george always told me i was wrong and that it was pronouced "bah-nahl". the reason that i ask this is because andrew bird uses the word "banal" to rhyme with "flannel" in one of his songs. so i look it up on dictionary.com and find this:
Usage Note: The pronunciation of banal is not settled among educated speakers of American English. Sixty years ago, H.W. Fowler recommended the pronunciation (bnl, rhyming with panel), but this pronunciation is now regarded as recondite by most Americans: it is preferred by only 2 percent of the Usage Panel

(I followed your icon from the latest neworleans group post to your journal...)
It's either "bay-nal" or "bah-nahl." Either is accepted as correct. I tend to go with the latter, because pronouncing "banal" as "bay-nal" seems somehow terribly "bah-nahl."
just like it's spelled woman, a capital B with a little anal taking up the rear. banal. although i might have to disregard proper pronunciation for once and side with seth and bay-nus.

I just replied to a comment you left over in neworleans asking you to post. And you did.
How are you, my friend? How is life?
TONS of people have been asking me to check out Andrew Bird. I must.
I am with mellythesmelly on this one - bane-ull. Does anyone pronounce it otherwise?
