Here are the rules. Most of them have been made due to unpleasurable experiences we, the mods, have had in other RPs and would like to not see again please. D: Please abide by them.
1. Don't skim these! this may seem like a silly rule but really. Don't skim the rules. Read them THOROUGHLY please and thank you. :3 You might miss something important otherwise.
2. Make sure to read the Background info! At the very least the basic stuff. It is important you understand what kind of world Syriuci is before entering it. It just makes everything easier.
3. I would also assume you’ve read the premise by now.
4. No godmodding! There are two definitions for godmodding: one involves controlling a character that isn’t your own and their actions. This is just not right, and if I see it, you’re in trouble. The exception is if you’ve talked to the other player already and the action is something miniscule (I.e. Me as Hughes having sex conversations with Roy, and with his player’s permission say that Roy may’ve…moaned at something Hughes did/said.) The other type of godmodding is making your character OMG INVINCIBLE!1!!!1 Yeah, no. Syriucians are not invincible. Your characters aren’t invincible. If you get in a fight with another character you honestly can’t expect to dodge every little attack and come out with not a scratch. It’s not fair.
Note: the exception to this is well...if your character really IS for the most part invincible. Case in point Saber from Fate/Stay Night, who is rated "outstanding" in all her fields, having very high magic resistance, can regenerate, etc etc. So long as you downplay these "invincible" qualities (in other words, don't make a big deal out of them. Example: Saber's magic resistance is rarely mentioned, only when it needs to be, and her regeneration has been swapped for just "healing very quickly") you're fine.
5. On that note, your character is not OMG SO IMPORTANT!!11 either. If you make your character out to be so important and whom we must all pay attention to, it generally ticks people off and makes you seem full of yourself. It’s called a Mary Sue Complex. And we all know how most people tend to feel about Mary Sues riiiiiiiiight? Have some modesty please. You’ll save your character from some un necessary hate.
Note: this does not mean you're not allowed to have characters who are important in Syriuci's SOCIETY. I.e. generals, palace advisors, nobles, etc. Case in point, the mod Fushi plays Chibiusa, who's the Empress in disguise. The point is, we do not want you acting like the rpg is all about your character or be an attention hog. You might end up doing it subconsciously so be careful.
Yet another note: this doesn't mean you can't have character drama. Drama in your characters' lives is fine and makes for interesting roleplay so long as it's in moderation. What we're trying to avoid is a girl who's in 3 different love triangles, is also starting to get a crush on a co-worker she thinks is female, breaks her foot and can almost miss her chance of achieving her dream of becoming a famous dancer, and is also a pop idol. Whose first hit reached #2 on the charts and she already has fan clubs. She's also only 15.
(...YES, we HAVE seen this happen! Not even lying. The pop idol thing and all. In fact, it's because of this atrocity we experienced that this rule is in place. Please. Do not make us deal with another case of this D: )
6. Your character is not OMG ALL KNOWING as well, while we’re at it. This could be considered a form of godmodding, but I feel a need to address it personally. Just because something is known to all the players doesn’t mean your character knows it. The perfect example of this is Chibiusa. Yes, we all know she’s really Black Lady the Empress of Syriuci, and that her best friend Hotaru is really Mistress 9 the High Priestess of the Congregation. Does this mean your characters will? No. None of the citizens know. Because their real identities are kept a secret from the public for privacy and safety reasons. Your character cannot just MAGICALLY FIGURE IT OUT. THINGS DON’T WORK THAT WAY. This goes for other characters too. If someone’s character has a big secret like say…they’re really a boy even though they’re wearing girl’s clothes, or they’re having a secret relationship with someone, please don’t have your character expose it without the player’s permission. Srsly. It’s lame and no fun and makes you a total spoil sport.
7. And because I know if I don’t give this its own rule someone might break it, your character CANNOT be all “OMG I’M FRIENDS WITH THE EMPRESS/PRIESTESS.” By this I mean writing in your character app “Is a close friend of Chibiusa and Hotaru and knows their true identities”. Sorry no. (not unless you get permission. See the note below) Not even most officials in the congregation know Hotaru’s real name, nor do government officials know Chibiusa’s. So just…don’t. :/
You can be friends with Chibiusa the seemingly innocent little girl though. :3
Note: if you wish to play a character who's part of the Empress' inner circle, such as Sailor Pluto, please contact us. Seriously, we are willing to give roles like this out to other players! We'd just like you to ask for permission first. =)
8. Everybody play nice: NO DRAMA/WANK. If you cause un necessary drama or start flaming you’re in trouble. Really. :/ No one likes RP Drama. (unless it's between characters or something) Don’t be an asshole. If you have a bone you MUST pick, deal with it outside the RP.
9. Also don’t take it personally if a character is rude to your character! Remember that we are all portraying fictional characters here. It’s not that the roleplayer has a personal grudge against you, it’s just them being in character. If you really think you’re being targeted or something send us mods a note.
10. Stay in character! Try your hardest to do so!
11. Realism over fangirlism. Just take a moment to think before you do something “Is this something the character or a human would realistically do, or is it just something I want them to do because I’m a fan girl?”
This isn't to say being a fangirl is bad, or that you can't do fangirly things. It just means we want you to handle these fangirl things in a way that's true to your character or makes sense, rather than just do it for the sake of doing it. We've seen it happen in other RPGs, we're sure you have too, and it just makes you want to hang your head in shame. Just make sure it fits with the character or reality. For example, people who hate each other in canon probably shouldn't want to suddenly go at it like rabbits without any development towards that point. Another example is that I myself am a Hyuroi fangirl, and wanted to do Hughes x Roy for this rpg too (but without the angst we had last time we roleplayed these two) How to pull it off? I made Hughes way young and basically put his age at a time where he wouldn't have met Gracia yet. Simple solution and it works way better than Hughes getting up and suddenly leaving Gracia for Roy. (which will uh...never happen. Ever) So see what I mean?
(but otherwise have fun with weird pairings and stuff. RPs are where the things that wouldn't happen in the show happen! Like crossover pairings! We just want you to be in character and realistic about it)
12. No original characters please! This is an anime, manga and video game rpg! No exceptions will be made. Don’t even try begging. I don’t care how super special awesome your original character is, we don’t want them :/
13. For the love of god make sure you’re literate! nO1 wNaTs 2 r3d thru ntrIeS liEk diS. Please show us you went to English class. and use the right ‘your’, ‘you’re’, ‘there’, ‘they’re’, ‘their’ god damnit…
14. Stay active! Post at least once every three months. If you haven’t posted an entry in three months, you will receive a pm asking you if you’ve been active in logs and to reply with a link to your last log post. If you haven’t logged lately, you are warned to update your journal in one week or you’re expelled. If we get no response, we wait a week and if we still get no reply, you’re expelled. You are however, welcome to appeal this later, such as if it turns out you had a valid excuse for not updating like computer dying. (Please though, if you’re going away for a while, let us know.)
15. Use appropriate warnings for logs and keep any inappropriate content behind a cut with warning. Some of us browse during work and school after all. :3 (oh and if a log has REALLY adult content like sex? Use the adult content filter :3)
16. Right now everyone has a limit of five characters. HOWEVER, if you can prove you can handle five already you may take more. Screw this, I'm a hypocrite. :/ You can have as many characters as you want but we mods are allowed to not let you take anymore if we feel you can't handle it.
17. If you drop characters then take more repeatedly you will eventually be unable to take anymore characters. This shows us mods that you are either a) biting off more than you can chew, then never learning from experience or b) not thinking it thoroughly what character you want, not committing to said character, and losing interest. Please think things thoroughly before applying.
18. The above also goes for people who are new and applying. If you honestly think you might not be able to keep up with the rp, please don't even bother joining.
19. This is an AU rp. You are allowed to change things about your characters. Gender, age, profession, race etc. You can even give them siblings! Just make sure that they are still, when every thing's said and done, their character. There is one exception to this rule, and that is rule 20. For more information on what you can change, see the applying page.
note: and please make sure you make your character's history fit Syriuci. :3
20. You are not allowed to give your characters magic powers if they can't use magic in canon anyways. This is just because we don't want people going overboard and giving their characters all these special abilities. You can however, if your character has some sort of strange ability, claim that it makes them a magie. (Example: the strange phenomena of Fuko Ibuki's "spirit" being at the school when she was in a coma and her body was at the hospital in the anime Clannad, has been turned into "Fuko can use astral projection when sleeping deeply" for the RPG and has made her a very weak magie who knows nothing of her powers)
Note: if your character IS a magie tho...you may be able to "twist" what some of their abilities are...
21. Please credit the makers of your icons, layouts and other such things. As an icon maker myself I can say that credit really means a lot, so please be sure to credit appropriately if you know who made your graphics and layouts. :3
22. If you leave the rp, please state whether or not you want your character available to others to pick up for not! See the Policy page on dropped/kicked out characters for more details
23. Did you read the background yet? Sorry just a reminder. There's been a few people lately who forget details of Syriuci or details of the Magibook and frankly it seems they didn't read the history at all. Please go read it if you haven't yet.
24. And lastly…have fun!
Now this is how we handle rule breakers. We use a 3 Strike rule.
-First Offence: Receives a verbal warning.
-Second Offence: Another, harsher warning.
-Third Offence: DEATH DESCENDS UPON YOU AND EATS YOUR SOUUUUUUUUUUL!!!
…no really. Jami is the Death card. Beware.
So 3 strikes you’re out. Now there is an appeal process you could go through if you think you were unjustly banned. Basically send the mod account a pm explaining why you feel you shouldn’t have been banned. We may consider letting you back in. …Maybe.
Also, an exception to the 3 strike rule is if it’s a repeat offense of a big rule. Such as flaming. If we catch you flaming after being warned for it before you don’t get a third chance.
