I've been thinking the same thing about the kill. Either it was a screw-up, or we're now going back on the Carter-era doctrines vis-a-vis refusal to actively seek assassination as a course of resolution to political and military threats

One of the first things the folks I was with on Sunday night noted was the distasteful nature of the celebration, and the bad karma it could engender. I still feel that way, despite the variety of responses seen on my FB friends feed. I do not mourn bin Laden's passing, and think it may have been better for intelligence to capture him. But after the trial of Saddam, I could understand someone high-up not wanting to go through that, regardless of if it was right or wrong. I don't know or understand the military specs, and thank you for posting these, but a trial would have been right, regardless of what actually happened.
I had only heard the "resisted" part and assumed that meant he was armed. I too am completely baffled as to how he could have been unarmed yet resisting to the point that killing him made sense. That makes no sense to me. Thanks for the info.
"Personally I think the Team America "F*ck Yeah!" attitude on broad display is distasteful jingoism. " Yeah, I dislike the childlike dancing in the street. It feels like we should be better than that.
Makes you rethink the photos/videos of "them" dancing in the street, doesn't it? Mob celbrations/riots always seem bad when someone else is doing it. Somehow it gets justified when we do it. Distasteful indeed.
