Why do so many fix-fics futz around with the house system, anyway?

I've never completely understood where the House system comes from, anyway. I've never really paid it any mind, really.

Not reading. I don't have time to read a self-righteous atheist's rambling attacks against Rowling and her series using flimsy logic and an unhealthy dose of self-aggrandizing smugness.

Then you have no right to defend Rowling's writing as flawless and all-knowing.

The only table not to participate was of course Slytherin, it remained exclusively attended by students bearing green on their robes.

Because all Slytherins are eeeeevil and are never decent people!

I hate this fic.

And why's that supposed to reflect badly on Ron rather than on all the judgemental arseholes?

Because everyone's favorite Self-Centered Bellend deems it to be bad not to show proper table manners. So decreeth Lord Potter!

Neville though was totally unaware that Millie, being a very smart girl

Wasn't her, y'know, ONE canon appearance supposed to imply that she's unintelligent, seeing as she went for the fisticuffs in a Dueling Club meeting against Hermione?

And I can't even tell whose POV this is meant to be. Good going there.

I honestly don't get how so many authors seem to think that giving regard to POV is optional...
