So far I'm not so impressed with the new "Google Rival" search engine cuil.com. It is not hard at all to give it quite reasonable queries for which it returns no results at all, suggesting I've made a typo or that I've put in too many search terms. I hate Windows
So, XP SP3 is pretty finicky about Parallels Desktop. After hours of Windows install after grueling Windows install, I have determined that if you want to be able to run XP SP3 in a Boot Camp partition both natively, and in a Parallels virtual machine, you MUST do the Windows install in THIS PRECISE ORDER:
- Boot XP SP2 on the hardware.

New toys
Last week I got an iPod Touch. In retrospect I should have gotten the 16GB one, but instead I stuck with the 8GB model. So far I am liking it very much.
The user interface and responsiveness of the touch screen is impressive. I'm not yet very competent with the screen keyboard; I don't know if that will get better or not. The auto-correct helps me ( Read more... ) -

Spanning Sync is an Apple System Preference which will automatically keep your iCal and Google Calendars in sync. It works pretty well, in that "no fuss" way that you always want things like this to function. The downside is it's $25/yr after a 15-day trial, but it may well be worth it. Strange hotel experiences
I'm about to go to sleep in my hotel room in Minneapolis. I am here for an all day Enterprise Architecture conference tomorrow.

EvDO, finally
I looked at my phone this morning and lo, it tells me I have an EvDO data signal here in Urbana. I've been waiting for this for over a year now, it's about damn time.
Now my phone will consume less power and data connections will run much faster. I also understand that this means that I can now receive an incoming call while using the data ( Read more... )
