Moving to dreamwidth or staying on lj?

Dec 25, 2011 20:14

(Please note that with some time of waiting in the dreamwidth queue the entire community including all comments and settings can be moved to dreamwidth.)

Poll Move to dreamwidth or stay on lj?I'd also like to say, for those who don't know yet that dreamwidth is going invite code free til the end of the year. However, you can also post without having an account here ( Read more... )

I'd say move to dreamwidth because the tracking function is now useless to me. I get an inbox full of 'reply to an entry' or 'reply to a comment' which is very frustrating because I used the tracker to see when a particular thread was updated.

That and LJ's customer service sucks hairy donkey balls.

I agree on this. The way I keep track here (because I can't read every single comment) is that I look at the threads that suddenly get many many comments. More often than not if there's a problem that's an indicator. And for me now, too, they all look the same.

I don't really know anything about Dreamwidth or how to use it....So I'm gonna go with LJ cause I'm a big chicken to change. T.T

If it does get sent to Dreamwidth is it going to be similar? OTL

Dreamwidth is very similar to LJ. Its creators were part of LJ before so...

I think the fact that it doesn't have layouts as pretty as LJ's would be its only drawback...

I think the layouts will come with everything else. Up to now dreamwidth has been very... overshadowed by lj and similar sites and people weren't really giving it much of a chance, I think. Probably also partly due to the invite code system (I've never quite felt that it comes across as a bit pretentious even though I DO know they do it largely to maintain functional while increasing capacity).

However, now lj users NEED places like dw because as we can see, lj no longer gives a flying one about their user base.

With no invite codes necessary till January, there's no time like the present to set up a mirror or placeholder comm, if nothing else.

How about we have the anonmeme on both dreamwidth and LJ, so as not to alienate users completely?

Like, say, the main prompts/fills post will be on dreamwidth, while we keep a second update post on LJ (plus a link to the current meme part) on this? That way when people load the t-and-b-anon page, they can find a link of the current dreamwidth page no problem.

This way, we get the best of two worlds :)

Oh, sure. I'm not even talking about deleting it here. It's just that... lj is fast becoming unusable. And for any meme the missing subject lines are a huge problem. We just really need to make sure that prompting and filling happens on one site and one site only. Because if we ever want to archive again (this is something I'm gonna come back to once the lj mess has been sorted), it would be a bit of a mess having it on two sites.

How about a post that doesn't allow commenting from anon comments with the link to the dreamwidth page? And nice red bold text that says prompts and fills on that page...

Yup. That would work fine.

I'm very new (just lurking actually) to this fandom, and though I voted 'move to DW', I'd suggest to, perhaps, just do this for provisional reasons? My hope is that, Eljay, might eventually fix the comment problem. And you might lose a lot of the readership by moving away entirely :/

While I'm very new to this community I have been in one that moved to dreamwidth and in the process lost 3/4 of their members. There were a number of reasons, number one being that most people were familiar with LJ and for the most part weren't having any major problems with it. Second...the invite codes for accounts. Someone here commented on keeping both. That may be a wise course of action until you can be sure that the majority will be comfortable enough with dreamwidth to not bail from the community completely.

If my kink meme message box is anything to go by, the new comment system has pretty much stopped the meme to a grinding halt. It doesn't seem like moving to DW will hurt more than it helps.

I'm an author-anon with two ongoing fills here, and to be honest, some of my loss of activity is due to the holidays. I just didn't have as much time or inclination to write porn while staying in my parents' guest room, for some reason. I still REALLY want to move to DW (even if LJ hadn't fucked up, I'd like to be able to post fills without pasting into Word to count characters) but I think that may have something to do with it. I wouldn't assume a rise in activity after New Year's to mean people are adjusting, though.

I know some of it has to do with the holidays (They've put a dent in my fill times too), but I think there's something to be said about how sudden the drop off was, as well as the fact that the last fifteen or so comments before the drop off were anons wondering what crazy shit LJ was pulling on us this time.
