Stupid question, I'm sure, but what do y'all prefer to use when looking for an old friend? Google isn't coming through for me on this one and all of the people searches seem to require funds.

I have no idea. I wonder, did you try a quote search? Putting the name in quotes? Also, try the last name (if it's unusual), the first(space)lastname, and first_last, etc. on google "images" search. Sometimes, though they aren't mentioned online, there is a photos of them archived and photos are normally labeled with the person's name in some fashion. Wish I had better advice.

i actually had success searching for an old friend on askjeeves. i asked them, 'is there a journal for ____ ___" and they linked straight to his journal. funny considering there was absolutely zilch for him on google or altavista.

I research people for a living, and I have scads of paid (and legal) resources. IM me or something sometime and I might be able to help. I found the address of my sister's college roommate in about 60 seconds once I had the right resource.
