i'm not good with dog breeds, but is he a staffordshire pitbull? my friend has a female that looks just like him and she's such an awesome dog. he's adorable!
I got him from the pound, so it's anybody's guess what he really is. We tell everyone that he is an american staffordshire terrier, because that sounds less like he eats babies than what he probably REALLY is, which would be an american pit bull terrier.
of course, I would love to get him a collar that says baby eater, just for fun.
all that aside, it's amazing how he's improved over the last 6 months. he was kind of an asshole when we got him, but now he's just a big goofy spastic lovebug.
well, they look just like each other, so i'd say staffie is right. my friend got hers from a shelter and the dog had been abused, so she was a bit sketchy at first. but i think i saw her at the 1 month and 6 month marks too, and she was such a sweet friendly dog the 2nd time. then, reading my friend's book about pitbulls, i realized how naturally awesome they are and how they just have a really bad rap. i've considered getting one myself, eventually when we live in a house with a yard.
i guess they're not so hard to train really well either. i've gotten a kick out of throwing young stripped saplings about 8' long for her to retrieve, which she does with no problem. hilarious!
when we got pasco from the pound, he was adoarble but kind of a disaster. We had a trainer come down and help us figure out how to deal with him. the next day, our upstairs neighbors at the shop came down and said "did you get rid of your dog?" no, he's right there. "oh...we thought he was gone because we didn't hear him barking like CRAZY every 30 seconds." heh.
it's not that they're hard to train. it's more that they just need more attention than most dogs, I think. when you don't hang out with them and keep them busy, they get attention however they can, which is usually by being a jackass.
I have never ever EVER thought I'd be a dog person. and now look at me. it's kind of ridiculous.
also: omg the lack of shedding is the best thing ever. his fur is so short and tidy. it makes me want to shave my cat...who looks suspiciously like one of your cats, doesn't he?
grin just wait til I get a photo of a) his ridiculous underbite, b) how when he gets his lip stuck on his big tooth and looks like elvis, and c) when he thinks that he is a lap dog but he doesn't actually fit in my lap.
