I said I wasn't gonna do this - voice my opinion - since I so rarely seems to agree with fandom theories, but apparently half of it is already in this post LOL.

ALL YA'LL ARE OVER-THINKING THIS.

Cas said that he couldn't fix it. Ergo, there is no saving of Sam by anyone, even angels. Hence, this means Sam is still crazy.

Cas said that all that he could do is redirect it. What he did was not replace, remove, or otherwise stop Sam's hallucinations and madness. What Cas actually did was create a new connection - a psychic link between Sam and himself - and he is actively porting the hallucinations over from Sam's head to his own. He doesn't need to eat (and therefore doesn't need to sleep) and so he is already massively more qualified for dealing with the debilitating side of this situation for as long as Sam needs him. Talk about having angels watching over you ( ... )

I still love that shot!

...
And another things!

The hallucinations and madness, once ported over, will morph into the things which Cas fears most. That is to be expected. Once the voice reaches his mind, it will naturally change to be about the things that Cas himself would find terrifying or debilitating, like an effed-up game of (BANANA) telephone.

Poor Cas... I'm so proud of him.

Yes but it's fun!!!

Agreed 100%

Now there's a thought! If that's indeed the case it will be most interesting to watch.

Here's what I wrote in ficwriter's LJ about what I think was going on with Cas and Sam and Lucifer.

One of the things I'm going to write about in my own journal is how that now, Lucifer (an angel) is in the mind of Cas (another angel). Even though Lucifer is undoubtedly more powerful than Cas, still, it's a more even match than Lucifer against a human. I wouldn't be surprised if Cas were able to eventually contain Lucifer, if not rid himself of him completely.

I think of it more as an open telephone line. Rather like, as you say, when Cas would show up in Dean's dreams. Not that Lucifer was actually out and possessing Sam, but when Sam actually acknowledged Lucifer, he became more than just a representation of Sam's memories. Rather like a really evil pooka. Basically, when the memories started leaking through as hallucinations, it was also Lucifer manipulating the hallucinations. The phone was ringing. As the wall crumbled more, Lucifer got more power over the hallucinations. The phone was ringing louder. Then when Sam ( ... )

I don't buy Meg's army of one crap. I'm putting my money on the fact that she sent those demons to the hospital just to get Cas all powered back up again. I think she was hoping Cas would want to go kill Crowley, but now she's just going to have to wait and keep an eye on him.
That's an interesting thought. In theory there should be a few more Lucifer loyalists out there that are on Meg's side. She's had hench-demons of her own before.
