These things weren't written by people who knew a lot about alchemy. A lot of people down on the mainland don't even really have a sense that they should be using their intuition. Which is why they tend to run into some much trouble in their lives.

Eh, yeah, I guess that's true. I keep forgetting this journal system isn't just a school thing, so it's probably reflecting other viewpoints. Up here you hear so little about what goes on down there that it's easy to forget....

But yeah, when I think about it, most of my folks were never that much with the grokking things intuitively. I'm the only one in my family who gets it. People tend to think because you're part cat or whatever, you just know this stuff, but it's not true, any more than it's true of the people who came from monkeys. We have to learn to pay attention to it, just like anyone else. Just, I'm so used to everyone around me doing it now that it seems perfectly natural....

My parents may not have a lot of talent at alchemy, but they were raised on its principles, at least. They wouldn't have said such a thing to me. So many people on the mainland would, though. Before I transferred here, I went to a general-education school, and the idiots there... oh gods, they just didn't have a clue.

I certainly hear you there. I developed a lot of unconventional techniques for surviving mainstream school, but it was rough on all of those who were like us-- I could tell who they were. I'm surprised someone like you made it out alive.

The ideas in mainland society... I don't even know where people get such ridiculous ideas. I did once have someone make an attempt to help me. Not so far as to befriend me for real, but I think he was trying to do something nice for me at least, trying to clue me in. Let's just say his advice did not accord with my intuition.

...That doesn't sound like it went well. What did he suggest?
