Oh goodness, you've covered about everything I could say on this issue, so I really have nothing to add to that except WOOOOORD.
That, and I was discussing all this with my dad today, whose opinion I really value since he teaches religion on a daily basis and it's his job to study all this in all kinds of contexts. I've noticed that the Yes on 8 people and the Religious Right people have trotted out this belief that marriage is between a man and a woman, and that's the way it ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE because it's sanctioned by God.
...Except that's not in the case. In the Old Testament, the very same Bible that people like to thump, polygamy was considered normal. There was no one man and one woman situation all of the time; men took multiple wives if needed. Heck, there was even an Old Testament LAW that if two brothers were married to two different women, and one of the brothers died before fathering any children, the brother left alive was required to father children for his brother's widow! Nowadays, that would be

Wow. This was very interesting to read, and I must say that for the most part I was agreeing with you on everything. It's good to hear another Christian's views on politics- generally, I feel that when I try to talk about my belief in Christ entwined with politics, people won't listen or take me seriously and it's massively uncomfortable, especially around people I know who don't share the same beliefs. So kudos to you, dear, for putting this out there and doing such an amazing job at it

Goddess, Ryune, I love you. I am infinitely glad you are here in this world.
I am going to share this with my anti-Christian Athiest father and my Catholic grandmother, and they will both appreciate it.
This is why I have so much respect for you. I have never met another faithful Christian whose beliefs made so much sense. Every one I've known of, from every denomination, comes with a set of of ideas that are either illogical or unfair or both.
Your way of thinking is so sensible and so loving that I just don't understand why I've never heard anyone say these things before. One would think, since the religion does include that strong theme of loving everyone, that there would be more like you. I'm sure there are. There must be... but I wish they would speak up the way you do. I wouldn't have such a grudge against Christianity if its people were just less hypocritically hateful.
It's like you say, the world would be a better place to live if we could all just learn to forgive.
I don't like Obama's policies, for the most part, but I am very, very glad someone is able to rationally explain why they would vote for him. Also I think I would like him more if his supporters in my city didn't riot and burn down McCain posters in people's yard. Yea, great way to promote unity...Honestly, I can't vote, but for these I was looking mostly at foreign policy (McCain's specialty) and economics (has there ever been a democrat that has lowered taxes?) since those are the big issues at the moment. (Of course, no one was evenly remotely considering foreign policy...) I support gay marriage, but that is not a federal issue. It is the states' decision and even with Obama as president that will not change
