[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Raoul Duke
FANDOM: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
CHRONOLOGY: Post events of Fear and Loathing by a few years, 1973 to be exact. The novel was originally published with "Raoul Duke" listed as the author, so Duke would have published his story by that year. Also, he will be retaining his memories from the last time I played him within Cape and Cowl.
CLASS: Chaotic Neutral.
SUPERHERO NAME: Lono
ALTER EGO: Raoul Duke- Doctor of Journalism
BACKGROUND:
Raoul Duke comes from the magical world of the 60's. And early 70's. Duke is a doctor of journalism working for Rolling Stone magazine. In Fear and Loathing, he is given the assignment to cover the Mint 400 desert motorcycle race in Las Vegas, Nevada for Sports Illustrated. He takes with him his attorney, a rental convertible, and a trunk full of drugs. Duke admits to not being able to cover the race in the traditional sense, due to the dust being so thick and the general sense of chaos. Their trip develops new route when they begin testing different drug combinations and decide to go searching for the American Dream. He ultimately gives up on the race, writing the story "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream" instead. While in Las Vegas, Duke and his attorney also cover the National District Attorney's Conference on Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs whilst completely high off of their tits. Their story takes a turn for the worst when they get so involved in their drug collection that they begin to wreck hotel rooms, cars, and completely lose the ability to differentiate what is real and what is hallucination. The two of them go out of their way to degrade, abuse, and destroy symbols of American consumerism, bringing the ugliness of mainstream American culture to light. His attorney flees the country, and Duke reflects on the past decade, and what it meant to him.
PERSONALITY:
"Well... shit, what can I say? Objective Journalism is a hard thing to come by these days. We all yearn for it, but who can point the way? The only man who comes to mind, right offhand, is my good friend and colleague on the Sports Desk, Raoul Duke. Most journalists only talk about objectivity, but Dr. Duke grabs it straight by the fucking throat. You will be hard-pressed to find any argument, among professionals, on the question of Dr. Duke's objectivity."
-Hunter S. Thompson: Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72
Raoul Duke is often characterized as Hunter S. Thompson's author surrogate. Duke may have started out that way, however in true Gonzo Journalism fashion, grew to be overly exaggerated and outrageous. Thompson admitted to being a complete let-down at parties, because those attending were expecting to see Raoul Duke, the character, and instead got Hunter Thompson, the man. While all of this is true, the two of them share similar histories and the same core personality.
I AM STILL WORKING ON THIS SECTION OKAY....
POWER:
What is/are your character’s superpower(s)? Non-canon. When having a hallucination, he can allow others to see the same images he does.
