Things always sound better in Elvish. In fact I'm pretty sure Haldir is Elvish for 'Steve'.

Yup. He's 87 when the Fellowship sets out, because he's from a line of men who live much longer lives. Though apparently his is a REDUCED lifespan compared to his ancestors... so.
