This chapter is amazing, and feels very transitional. I love the science-geek stuff thrown in, and the way we slowly get more of the shape of this world as Charles does.

Oh Charles. You once agin get the clueless badge when it comes to your own feelings, even if it seems you're starting to figure a few things out in other areas. And really, even if Erik gave you your complete freedom, where would you go? And if Erik took off his helmet and let you into his mind, what would you change to make this situation better? Could you even change him at this point?

For all that Charles didn’t belong in that room, sitting with those people-for all that no amount of acceptance made it right-it was difficult not to imagine that maybe the Brotherhood could be something more.

Really Charles, "be the better men" should not have an expiration date. The world is sitting pretty in its hand basket in Hell perhaps, but you can still change things. Just because you can never change things back doesn't mean nothing good or worthwhile will ever be

Such a richly layered and dynamic story! You have truly created a world and it is incredible to read what you have done. I agree it seems like Erik is saying goodbye. Oh, dear....not sure what to think, and that is good. Thank you!
