It was a little hard to come to a conclusion, but I have to go for Flynn. He's not the person I think of when I think of you but his personality complements yours at the same time. He's willing to be a follower but can pass as a leader too, and overall he's a very balanced person who I think can meet your needs.
Hum, hard balance there. It's not a perfect fit, but I'm going with Beryl (sorry, another japanese-game character ^^; I have a second vote afterwards). She's maybe a bit too pessimistic, but the rest fits. She looks lazy but she's actually a hard worker, she's definitely very creative and smart, is the common sense of the group, has lots of different skills, even if she'd rather not get into situations where she needs to use them. She's definitely not a leader, but can handle herself on her own without too much trouble. And she's the kind who works for herself and not for others, so she wouldn't start a rivalry. Overall, I think she fits very well, but it's based on sides of her characters you don't see striaght away. She's also a very loyal friend. That beign said, I can kinda see Genis too but he's more liable to start a rivalry, among other things.
I thought hard about this, and I was debating between a lot of different characters (like Van, Lloyd, Ratatosk (not Emil :3), Leon, and Flynn) but in the end I chose Tenebrae. He's far from stupid and trustworthy. He's not about to go blabbing about you or things you say to anyone else. He makes a good companion and won't hide important information from you: if he finds out something you need to know, he'll tell you as soon as he can and you'll have his full support

Except for the follower bit, I really see Jade as a good compliment to you. I definitely see him in the choices section and as long as you can put up with his playful teasing I think you guys would get along fine. =D
