Cowboy for a day

I got to play cowboy today in a western riding competition....cowboy boots, chaps, and a cowboy hat, the whole bit. felt kinda silly, but i had a blash, even if in 4 sets i only plced third in one...but since i had just started riding western a few weeks ago, and had never competed before, and some of the people were national level riders, i did ( Read more... )

there were only four riders competing, but in my later years, as i tell my grandkids the story, it will be many, many more :)

You know, I would feel just as awkward in an english saddle. I grew up riding through fields and I have been on a fe cattle drives in my day. For what its worth, the one and only time I tried an english saddle, I fell off because the thing was so slippery. :)

Western saddle is very akward for me, and the horse seem alot slower to me...i am used to quick response, and that just doesnt happen in western. and almost no jumping...i dont know what happens when a cowboy has a log in the way...
