My favorite thing for this to be would be a collection of short stories taking place in the HP universe written by JK Rowling.

Anything from things happening in the marauder days, the founding of hogwarts, the sorting of Albus Severus, and other things outside the time frame of the books, to missing scenes and alternate points of view to things that happened in the books.

I really love that idea. ♥ I'd still love for it to be an encyclopedia or Hogwarts, A History, but your idea would be an absolutely wonderful way to get a glimpse into all these different things that I've wondered about. And it is just so much more magical reading about them in the context of an actual story, rather than just an encyclopedia entry titled, for instance, "Potter, Albus Severus."
