I think one of my biggest pet peeves re this whole Monsoon issue is how people are surprised that Magnus kissed a woman since she's been 'straight' up until this point. That implies that sexuality is a solid, a constant, an unmoving, unevolving factor in one's personality. If you really study the psychology, in theory, of someone nearly three ( Read more... )

Welll you know... Charlotte hasn't tried to kill her, and she's probably only in her 30's/early 40's, so clearly she isn't qualified to be a romantic interest for Magnus! Magnus is only allowed to be interested in Druitt and Tesla, you know.

I don't have a problem with Magnus being bi or pan. Makes sense, as long as she's lived. I kind of have a problem with her rushing into something because Amanda clearly stated in an interview that Magnus is "choosy" and that she hadn't slept with all of the Five because "that's a bit slutty." As that's from Amanda's mouth directly, I tend to trust it more than fannish speculation.

On the other hand, the woman's been alone for 113 years and is probably stressed the hell out from keeping secrets and the whole network changing. She's allowed to act a little outside her normal boundaries.

LOL. I think you can argue it either way and make it make sense. From my own writer/RP standpoint, I've always played Magnus more aloof and reserved about sex so while she's had more than one partner, clearly, and both genders, she's always known the people well and been with them a long time.

But that's just one interpretation.

I can't believe people are getting upset over this. It seems silly and form some comments I've read bigoted. It's depressing to read some of the comments. It seems silly to be so upset about this and frankly to be completely shocked by it for the following two reasons.

1. Helen is very open minded woman. She's always been ahead of her time. Yes, it's possible that she's exclusively heterosexual but I found very, very very unlikely.* Given how opened minded she is. How she curious for new things. I've always thought she'd be pansexual not just bisexual. I don't think male, female, human or abnormal are defining factors on who she falls for or is sexually attracted too. She doesn't let herself be limited or defined by other people before and I don't see her doing it in this matter.

2. Amanda has said for years that Helen has had women lovers.

* I always got the feeling that Five played around with sexually together. John and James sorta seem like they've been lovers.
