Chapter 2

Turning at the library and heading down Park Street to the United Methodist Church, Ennis knew he would be just barely on time. He also knew that his putting off leaving until the last minute wasn’t unintentional. As parents of the bride, he and Alma could hardly avoid each other, and the reception at the Elks Club would put him through ( Read more... )

Alright now, I only occasionally get choked up over a story I read here...not to say that they aren't all very good. But it was hard to contain when he felt Jack's hand. Very nice writing. I really do look forward to where this goes. Thanks.

A bit of a shock at the transition, but then it just seems totally natural that Jack should be there, and should hear - finally - what he never got to hear in life.

This is beautiful, and I can't wait to see the rest.

I checked this out on Cyn's rec & am so glad I did. The writing is great in its simplicity that it carries you along until you find yourself caught by a particular phrase or gasping at the turn of events. I felt the shock Ennis felt sitting in that church as it was conveyed so well. The background to this Ennis since the end of the story is very plausible, not much description needed because there's not much to tell. Loved your beautiful phrase about Alma Jnr: "The light passing through the veil cast tiny sparkles on her brown hair like fugitive stars". The look between Ennis & Alma Snr was a nice touch. Somewhat of a cliffhanger end. Is he going mad with internalized grief or is there something else going on? Whatever it is I'm sure it will be a joy to read going on these first chapters.

Dear TalkstoCoyotes (love that name BTW):

WOW that's all I can say is - WOW.

"I, Ennis, take you Jack…
to be my beloved partner…
to have and to hold, from the very beginning….
for better, for worse….
for richer, for poorer…
in sickness and in health…
to love, to honor and to cherish….
till death, and beyond.

I, Jack, take you Ennis…"

Can anything be more beautiful than that? My eyes started to well up. It has such a Wuthering Heights feel to it, one of my favorite stories. At least I think that's the direction the story is going in. I'm usually always wrong about guessing things like that, but happily so, because I love a great story full of surprises.

Thank you, thank you for this - can't wait for more! :-)
