The light passing through the veil cast tiny sparkles on her brown hair like fugitive stars and her dark eyes glowed behind the white mist of fabric. She was suddenly mysterious and removed from him, and he did not hear the first chords of the wedding march behind the door. Junior smiled behind the veil and pressed his arm gently. "Time to go in, Daddy."

For somebody who never wrote fiction before you sure know what you are doing. This is a gorgeous passage of prose.

wow, i got literal shivers reading how jack's hand entwined with his! was going to wait to read more before commenting,,, but obviously that ain't gonna happen! :D

I've never read this before, saw it recommended, and have read Chapter 1 and now this. Very beautiful and haunting, it will be a treat to catch up.

Thanks for reading! As you can see, I've taken a long time with this fic, but the rest of the story is pretty much sketched out. One of the surprises of fiction writing has been how it seems o have its own 'schedule.'

Ennis will take some very unexpected detours, but the scene of his final reunion with Jack has already been written. Hope you like the rest of the story.
